What is the Maplewood Access Road Extension?
The Maplewood Access Road Extension project is part of the overall Downtown Cary Strategic Plan to improve and enhance the connectivity, mobility, and parking systems in the Downtown area. The extension project is intended to provide additional access to the Metra Station from Cary-Algonquin Road.
Currently to access the Metra Station and the parking north of Main Street, there is one access point near the railroad tracks and a second access point at High Road which provides the only exit for the area. This project proposes to improve mobility to enhance the quality of life for the area. Further, it can provide greater access for pedestrian and bicyclists to the Downtown area.
The Maplewood property was purchased by the Village of Cary from School District 26. The future redevelopment of the former Maplewood Elementary School property represents a significant development opportunity within Downtown Cary. The Village of Cary will continue to work toward a common goal of realizing a successful redevelopment plan that benefits the entire community.

When is the Maplewood Access Road Extension happening?
The Maplewood Access Road Extension project is currently in Phase 1 of the 3-phase process for a roadway project. During Phase 1, the project conducts studies and surveys, which includes but is not limited to collecting and analyzing traffic data, utility data, topographic surveys, environmental studies, drainage studies, coordination with utilities and other agencies, and gathering public input. Below is an estimated schedule of the Maplewood Access Road Extension project. The outcome of Phase 1 is determining a Preferred Alternative for the project.
Phase 2 is the preparation of contract plans and documents for a contractor to bid on. Also, during Phase 2, any land that may be required to construct the project is purchased. Phase 3 is the construction. The schedule is subject to change pending project readiness and funding availability.
